Friday Fractal Monday

Oh-oh--Andree introduced me to a new fractal program which is a free download. It's called XaoS . It's very dangerous, like all fractal programs, and fun. I don't have much time to play with my Kresge Fellowship application coming due soon, but I must admit, I did take a little time out of my busy schedule. Mine are small becasue I don't have time to post big ones (they do get a little bigger if you click the images), but I may later, and they aren't nearly as nice as Andree's. But someday, if I have more time ever, I may do fancier ones!!

(I used to post a single image to a single blog, but nowadays, if people visit at all, they only visit ONE of my blogs. So they miss the other projects I'm working on. So those very few of you who visit more than one of my blogs will see this (and some of my other posts) on more than one blog. So sorry about that. It would be better I think to only have ONE BLOG! But it is too late for that, as I would lose my audience which is spread among many blogs! AK!)

Fractal Friday Monday

I didn't get a chance to post this fractal or any other on Friday for
Fractal Friday, so I am posting it today. I made it using
FractalWorks, a free download for Mac users. It's perfect for this
morning. It was eleven degrees out earlier (haven't been down to
check recently)--very cold and a little snowy, but the sun is shining.

Crossing the Fractal Moon

Crossing the Fractal Moon, by Mary Stebbins Taitt. This is my
Creative Every Day post #1. I joined last night, and I did this piece
last night, but was unable to post it. SO it is actually for
yesterday. This is a DETAIL or crop from the full picture, which you
can see here, along with a description of how I made it.

Often my creativity is sparked by an outside influence, in this case,
the original fractal flame, made on Apophysis. I liked it and wanted
to use it but had no idea what I wanted to do with it until I was
fooling around and added the circle. I had been thinking "abstract"
but the circle became a moon so I added the goose and the reeds. It
may be a tired or clicheed idea, but I think the execution of it is
fresh and creative.

I just downloaded and learned to use (sort of) a new fractal program,
Oxidizer. It's free for Macs like Apophysis is free for PCs. This is
my first fractal flame using Oxidizer. :-D

Friday Fractal

Stalactites and Stalagmites Fractal

Trying to learn fractals. I'm working with Apophysis, a free program
you can get online. The top picture is one I fooled around with on
Photoshop. The second picture is the one I fooled around with, which
I had previously fooled with on Picasa. The third picture is the
almost original fractal. It was actually a sandwich of two fractals
generated on Apophysis. Never seems to be able to leave well enough
alone.

"Sun-flower"

A Fractal Works fractal in 2-D and 3-D. The 3-D one looks a bit like
a flower or fabric ruffles.

ABC Wednesdays, F is for Fractal

This is a new 3D fractal I made using FractalWorks. It works on Macs
and is a time sink because it is endlessly fascinating.

Out-of-the-box fractal flame from Oxidizer. I still haven't got the hang of using oxidizer. At this point it seems much harder and less intuitive than Apophysis. You can see what I did with it in Photoshop here. Thanks to meeyauw for her tutorial here. Hopefully I will understand if I keep trying!

Friday Fractal

I made these fractals last night "for Andrea" using Fractal works, a
free Mac download, after a brief discussion with her about fractals.
I learn a little more about it every time I play with it, but I still
have a long way to go.

Glass Crown

This is one of the many fractals I made last winter with one of my
fractal programs, Fractalworks, a free download for Mac users. I'm
still after almost 2 years a fairly reluctant Mac user and don't see
what all the fuss is about--I find Macs to be difficult and
unintuitive, but I've been told it's because I'm too used to PCs. PCs
stills trike me as so much easier. However, I'm slowly slowly slowly
learning the Mac and it is FAST! Its speed and its ability to
photograph portions of the screen at will are the only two things I
really like about it. That and fractal works. I wish I have a
nerdy-techno-friend who wanted to pour vast amounts of time into
answering my stupid Mac questions 24-hours a day so I could become
more efficient.

CONFESSIONS F A FRACTAL ADDICT

One is too many and a hundred are not enough.

I'm not sure why I love making fractals--they fascinate me with their
endless variety.

BUT I have other stuff I NEED to do. ENOUGH for now!!!

Very good or very lucky!

I'm either very good or very lucky lately, knock on wood, about my cooking, I almost never use a recipe. I used a method my mother would call "by guess and by gosh." I've made a series of incredibly good meals without consulting a cookbook at all, even though I had no idea what I was doing. They included, for example, shrimp ratatouille, scallop and cod coconut curry, and last night, I made:

almond encrusted tilapia (from scratch, no recipe) over a bed of wild rice
served with a side of scallop and andouille gumbo
and golden fried garlic polenta.

And, not to brag or anything, it came out GREAT!!! Better than restaurant food, cheaper, and healthier.

This celebratory fractal is from Fractalworks, a free download for Macs. I made it on Fractalworks, altered the colors on Fractalworks, and then played with it on Photoshop CS4.

Here is a picture of the cod and scallop curry. The light was bad. I neglected to get one of last night's dinner. (If you click on it, you can see a larger image, though why you'd want to I'm not sure.)

The Mandlebrot Buddha

I made this image for my brother using Fractal Works (a free download
for Macs). It reminds me of a meditating Buddha. All that energy
crackling around him.

2 New Fractals

These two fractal flames are variations created by me on Apophysis, a
free download for PCs. For some reason, I find fractals endlessly
fascinating. I made some more but the program crashed and I lsot
them. I am doing this on a quick lunch break.

Fractal Friday Wednesday

These three fractals, made on Fractalworks, a free download, were made
using different color schemes and were done at different times, but
they look almost identical, except for the color int he third one
(Bird of Paradise). Without looking at the others, it is interesting
that I chose to "photograph" these same ones three separate times, and
if I go through my files, I may find more.
