Screech Owl
We were very excited last year to see a screech owl in our neighbor's tree. Last night, we saw one in our own tree--saw it fly to a hole, go inside, come out and fly away. It would be very exciting if it would nest there.
At least you won't have to worry about little critters being around while it’s in your yard. But, then, it wouldn’t be there if there wasn't a food supply. Watch your feet.
We live on a wooded property and since I've lived here I've kept a running list of all the varmints who've come to visit. Owls are on the list, as well as hawks, deer, moles, voles, coyotes, opossums, snakes, toads and more and more... I like it, as long as they remain outside the house. I tagged you on a post today. Enjoy. http://blog.feefifoto.com/2007/10/in-honor-of-my-.html
Thanks Coffeypot and Fififoto with the cool name for your entertaining comments, LOL!
Norway rats can get pretty huge--one time on a Sunday morning I was sitting outside city Hall in car waiting for someone and I saw some motion nearby in the bushes and the place was crawling with HUGE rats. Hundreds of them, very weird and scary. Another time I went to a barn at night and flipped on the light and hundreds of rats scuttled over the hay--eek. I was attacked by a Rat once my garage as a kid--my brother killed it with an ice chopper.
I like your animals better, FeefiFo. You must live in a wonderful wild place.

It would also be very exciting if you could get pictures of it! Cool!
So far we have only seen it at night, though I got a VERY good view of it in the dark as it flew close to my head. :-D

good point--at least I hope they are little creatures and not big ones (like rats), and I hope he (or she) doesn't drive them into the house!
[Dunno if a little screech owl could take a big Norway rat!]
I couldn't take a Norway rat. Even with a shotgun. I'd be afraid it would take it away from me and beat the shit out of me.
I also believe that if you are real quiet you can hear a Norway rat sneaking around your yard saying, “Here kitty, kitty, kitty.”
BTW, what is a Norway rat? I assume they are big mothers.
