a strange sense--this deer was only a few feet away from my in the
woods at Metrobeach. But it was dark, very dark. With no tripod and
not flash, I pointed the camera at the deer. I could hardly see it.
Actually, there were about twelve deer, but this one was the closest.
I thought that it was pretty neat that it came out. Crappy, to be
sure, but it was nighttime and I can see the deer better here than I
coudl in real life. Cool.
OK, 'scuse me, I just needed a little break.

Great shot. You had the settings set just right.
After the shot I would have been tempted to shout as loud as I could, "Bang!" I bet she would have dropped dead right in her tracks. Or as Neal Bortz, our local talk show and author would say, "DRT - Dead Right There." But, I gave up deer hunting many moons ago simply because they are so beautiful and peaceful to watch. But I would still be tempted to shout. My split personality, ya know! All twenty of us have our own ideas on the subject, too.

It's awesome that you took this picture with no special equipment and can see the deer better than you could in person! Did the sound of the shutter and flash of the display spook the deer?
I didn't use a flash--that's why it's so dark. When you use a flash, it scares them away, and I didn't want to scare them. Also, you get red-eye or white eye or green eye or yellow eye.
But yeah, I could definitely see the deer better in the picture than in life. I could barely tell where it was in the dark forest.
Oh, sorry, you said the flash of the display--it was SO dark that it didn't make much light!
