Feeling Guilty

I said: I enjoy painting and writing. :-D Sometimes I feel like I am not doing enough productive work though! I wonder if my art and writing have any real value to anyone other than me and if I am being selfish to do this.

Susan said: I've concluded that the notions of productivity and selfishness are just so much blather. Do what you love. If you believe in God, why would she put people on Earth to do things that make them unhappy? And if you don't believe, then we're here on Earth as just one in a million species, destined to evolve into and perhaps out of being, each of us doing the best we can with the deck we're dealt, our only obligations to others being what we decide to undertake of our own free will. So why not do our best to enjoy and appreciate the gift of life while it lasts? (Just realized I'm talking to myself, by the way!)

I said: Thanks, I needed that! (But I still need to go to the bank and do some other work, LOL! Be a Mom.) Click image to view larger. Posted by Picasa

Like many things, productivity is all in the eye of the beholder.

It goes back to that question I asked a number of years back--what's important and meaningful? I keep asking the same question!

Some part of me wants to be Mother Teresa and Albert Schweitzer, but I can only be me.

Hello Mary,
I think a certain amount of guilt is almost inevitable--better, I say
to feel the guilt and know it's nothing but a construct, than to feel
guilty about feeling guilty. That gets too complicated for me. I'm
doing a ton of writing, some better, some less so, and I'm doing other
cool things--music, cooking--and I'm talking care of the people I care
about. I could do more/ I could do less. It's all OK to me. I don't
think there's a perfect pattern to adhere to--just whatever choices I
make at a given time.
I know you're a terrifically gifted person--what does some web based
quiz know about you anyway! Take care and enjoy the sunlight! Love,
Dawn

It's cheaper than therapy :]

How else will we be able to stay produtive?
